“Ultra-Slim” Profile
I have to admit that out of all the cases I have tried for my Nexus 7, this one is indeed the thinnest. This picture might not do it justice, but trust me, it’s pretty thin.
At around 17mm thick (with the tablet inside) it’s adding enough protection but keeps the Nexus 7 feeling svelte and portable. This has to be at least half the thickness of their previous case.
What you sacrifice, however, is the flexibility of various angled positions that the previous case allowed for. This brings us to the next point.
45 Degree Viewing Angle / 25 Degree Typing Angle
The back of the case contains a little flap you can use to tuck in the front cover, creating a 45 degree position for the screen, or flip it around and get a more typing-friendly 25 degree angle.
That’s it as far as viewing angles. The original rooCASE allowed for many more positions with its Velcro design, but that’s also what made it so thick. So basically, it’s a trade-off. Personally, I’d go for thin since these two viewing angles are good enough for me.
Sleep/Wake
Just like the original rooCASE, the Ultra Slim version also has a built-in magnet to activate the sleep/wake feature. Open the front flap and the tablet turns on. Close it and it shuts off. I’ll never buy a case without that feature now that I’ve gotten used to it.
Stylus Loop

All Ports Accessible
This is a step up from the last case. It seems the holes cut out for all the ports and buttons are slightly bigger and allows for easier access. Even the speaker on the back gets five holes of its own.
Style
The case looks pretty stylish overall, but I suppose that’s subjective.
The one negative for me is that it seems like they made the front cover oversized compared to the rest of the case, so all around the edge is extra material.
The edges are also a bit oversized where they are sewn shut, giving it a sort of “empanada” or “ravioli” like look to it. In other words, it’s not quite as snug as it could be. Even the corners bunch up a little as you can see in the following picture. This is my only major gripe with this case.
Notification Shade Access
One of my gripes of the original rooCASE was the difficulty in accessing the notification shade due to the case getting in the way. Again, it seems rooCASE was listening and designed a fix. Basically, they removed some material from the top of the case on the front to allow you to be able to slide your finger down. Great solution. Unfortunately, they only did this at the top and not at the bottom, which would help with accessing Google Now.
Conclusion
For the most part, I love this case. The cutouts are all perfectly sized and accessible, the profile is super slim, and the look is almost perfect if it wasn’t for the “empanada” edges. The craftsmanship is excellent, and I suspect the extra material around the edges is done purposefully, though I don’t know the reason for it.
Oh, and I almost forgot the best part. Right now, Amazon has this case available for only $14.96. That’s a steal for a case that not only protects your Nexus 7, but does so in a super slim and classy way.
